This reminds me of a scene in Katawa Shoujo where Shizune (deaf) snaps her fingers super loud directly in front of Lily's (Blind) face. It's one of the most dickish things anyone does in the story and one of the few times we see Lily lose her composure.
I can't imagine hoe horrifically startling loud noises in close proximity must be to blind people.
Seeing how this prank might render her permanently deaf would make it harder for her.
Blind people rely in their other senses a lot more than non-impaired people.
I remember 5 years ago when I covered how a blind man lost the tact in his fingers when he burned his hands when moving some stuff in his house. My dad and I interviewed him and he started crying saying how he'd never be able to work again. He had a small candy shop in the main park of a city in my state and used his tact to know the value of every coin and bill people payed him with.
