Smetana is like sour cream I guess, but I never tasted anything labeled as "sour cream" when abroad, so no personal experience.

You can trust Poland with a lot of dairy products. Especially during hot season maślanka is amazing. Just don't ask us to make some good cheeses. I'm sure they're there... somewhere.

Can vouch, growing up with AMERICAN CULTURE advertisements and being American in no way prevents having an ironic opinion of your own country's stuff
