The fact that it's redder than the rest of the body might contribute a lot. Not to mention the shortness of the toe compared to the other digits.

The two that are straight out aren't bad at all. The failed attempts to get creative with ankle positioning on the other two makes them look bent in odd ways and messes up their own proportions; the one on our right is short enough to look more like a hand and the one on the left is thin and twisted in an unnatural manner.
