No steam visible in the art (though that doesn't necessarily reflect reality), and if he was truly lost in reverie as he's depicted himself, I could see him not noticing even if there actually was steam.

Still is kinda weird given some fingers are touching the paper cup and not the cardboard holder, normally people can tell its hot from touching that. Unless it was so cold and it feels like a normal warm temperature to the touch....
