Artist's commentary
Mike Goutokuji is a manekineko from Goutoku Temple, but since she’s calico instead of white like they’re supposed to be, she was ostracized by the others. She tried dyeing her fur before but now she’s rebellious against the very idea of being a manekineko. This means her power is incomplete: she can invite money or customers but never both at once.
Takane Yamashiro is a yamawaro (mountain kappa), who have a huge rivalry with the kappa but are almost exactly the same. They are specialized for life in the forest though. While kappa are better at manufacturing, yamawaro are better at finance, so ideally they would work together. Kappa call yamawaro monkeys while yamawaro call kappa frogs (amphibians). Takane is kinda like the leader of the yamawaro, but it seems to be an informal position.
Sannyo
Komakusa
is a mountain courtesan(?) who runs a popular gambling den on youkai mountain. She has the power to manipulate emotions with her tobacco smoke, but the example given is that she uses it to calm her customers down before they ruin themselves with gambling. It’s a high-class joint and people call her by the friendly nickname of Dayuu.
