Backstory to fill in the gaps from what was mostly just a gag manga. Now it tends to have a continuing story....that is still largely gags, but still.
Also the cast is huge as more and more ships were introduced, but some didn't get as much attention 5 years ago, as they did later. So backstory (Ido was focusing on the Germans and Italians along with the Japanese ships for gags until I guess when Warspite and later Gangut arrived).
