Honestly, I don't think it is true. Aren't Maribel and Renko from the near future?
They're from the indeterminate future, and the music CDs heavily imply that Maribel went back in time to create Gensokyo so that the "mysterious youkai filled place of her dreams" would be a nicer place.

At the very least, she has apparently gone back and met/stumbled into Sakuya and Mokou. Thus Maribel becoming Yukari and then going back in time isn't impossible.

If Trogan Green Asteroid showed anything, it's that Maribel messing with boundaries isn't always safe. Perhaps something will happen to her on one of those trips that can't be fixed with boundaries......whenever ZUN decides to release another music CD.
If you think about it, Yukari would be the case of a dream Maribel has, while Sumireko would be the Renko's case. Why do they mean so much for Doremy? Maybe because they are dreams that mess with the dream world that Doremy guards. Also, why does Yukari "hibernates"? To recover strength?

I'll rather prefer that Maribel would be just another type of gap youkai than just being Yukari, I mean, there Can be more species of the same youkai, so 2 gap youkai wouldn’t hurt Gensokyo at all...
