I wonder if she manually ejected the flying cartridge due to a misfire. You often see shows guilty of shooting the whole bullet, like Lupin III, but not usually the other way around.

From the artist's comments, I believe it is a blank projectile. that also explains the hole at the end / head of the cartridge
