Also, based on a Pixiv comment, I think Kogasa's supposed to be a parody of Amuro Ray's father Tem, but I couldn't swear to it.
He absolutely is. It's a parody of the scene where he makes a circuit out of random junk and gives it to Amuro, telling him that it'll upgrade the Gundam's abilities (spoiler: even Amuro can tell that it's random junk and that dear old dad has gone a bit coo-coo).

To elaborate, early in the series Tem Ray get sucked out into space, and for most of the series people thought he died. But then he turns up alive later on, but he's clearly suffered some kind of brain damage from oxygen deprivation since he hands Amuro a box of junk electronics and claims it's a power-up item that will make the Gundam invincible. In the TV series that's the last we see of dear old dad, but the movies unceremoniously kill him off by having him fall down a flight of stairs.
The "power-up item", dubbed the Tem Ray Circuit, actually became a running gag in the Super Robot Wars franchise. It's an equippable that lowers a robot's stats, but also reduces its repair cost to just 10 Credits; it'll often be given to Evangelion Unit 1, since it makes deliberately destroying the Eva to trigger Berserker Mode a viable strategy.
Hi-Ho
With the karaoke lounge rooms being unexpectedly full, Kogasa-san is suffering from karaokenium deficiency...What if you sing karaoke at home?
If...if I attache this to a karaoke ma-sheen, my singing ability will increase...
