In this picture her hair is cut short and she's wearing black clothing that hides her bust: I feel people would be justified in thinking it's some other character. Nene still has one of her Chinese buns and her hair is kept long.

It's not cut short, it's in a ponytail. The bangs and sidelocks are still a perfect match, it's styled exactly the same. Along with her yellow eyes and elf ears, she's pretty easily recognizable here.
