welpm this confirms helltaker hitting hard with the weebs, they made a touhou parody of it.
I dunno if you can call a Japanese person a weeb, they kinda invented the culture, not to mention Touhou is way more mainstream in Japan than the rest of the world, so it's hardly surprising that a Japanese artist that took a liking to Helltaker would combine the two
These kinds of popularity booms tends to be self-sustaining for a while because it's fed by it's own momentum as new people keep discovering it. Kinda like a wave going across a pond. Once everyone's seen it the wave will hit the end and it it'll fizzle out just as quick as it came.

Unless we get a sequel.
Yes, like how bowsette was a short thing, however touhou is ETERNAL and has continued to slowly grow over the course of more than a decade. It eventually goes back to being near number one on danbooru image growth.

Two years isn't a short thing, and she and her super crown friends still get plenty of art. If anything Bowsette memes have just become common like most others so they're not a spetical anymore.
For a meme its dead. Memes are ideas. An ideology as silly as the bowsette has not become common, it died out with maybe some artists contributing scraps. My point is that a healthy meme will grow and mutate into different variations. Touhou is big enough that it has traction for years. Bowsette had some minor mutations, but it basis was a joke and therefore died out. Although there is that one dude who has that bowsette comic series, but such a thing will waver over time.
Yep. Touhou is so "eternal" that there are new games and characters periodically and yet the top popularity pool positions and memes are from the same old characters from a decade ago... 18 years in this case. Something is going wrong here. Maybe Touhou is not anymore as popular as you may think.

Or maybe it has something to do with the fact that those 18 year old characters have 100 times the art of anyone else, creating an exposure feedback loop, where the sheer amount of attention they've gotten over the years has self sustained their appeal and popularity among fans both new and old because you can't go anywhere on the internet without seeing them. Popularity is primarily dependent on exposure, the more attention something gets, the more attention it will get.
Rarely in any franchise do new characters overtake old ones in popularity, aside from the occasional random runaway fan favorite, because new characters have to contend with the already popular existing characters. Most people stick with their original favorites and don't take on new ones. Touhou characters especially have to deal with over 100 other characters, it's unreasonable to expect that any random new character is somehow going to place top 10 under these circumstances.

Some characters just aren't popular its as simple as that.
There is also the posibility the few old Touhou fans get jelous about other fandoms growing they desperatly try and shove it everywhere else it is not related but growing momentum. I mean, less than 43,000 votes in popularity contest polls is not exactly a big number for something that has been for more than two decades.
K-Pop fans boycotted a president, for an "eternal" growing fanbase details like these would be nothing hard to do.

Now you're just projecting baseless conspiracy theories and demanding one fandom be as fanatical as another to prove its "power level"
No. All I'm saying is if mere teens can organize each other because of their recent formed fandom and yet another popular fandom so longeve can't participate in something so important like a popularity contest, then we can infer they are old, ignorant about new things (self fandom included), fewer in numbers and rocking as if this is still 2009. I bet they are still waiting the next flash animation released by IOSYS.
Times change, tastes too. Also ZUN is not getting any younger either. Everything has an end so enjoy it while it lasts. It's not bad to be small. Just and again, do not pretend everyone should follow your fandom and put your foot on everyone else business like a religious cult. It's annoying.
Not a troll, but someone not blinded by a single fandom believing every other contrary opinion should be silenced because that could prove Touhou is not big anymore.
Not everything has to be about Touhou, it's not a law. At least make it have sense, the Subterranean Animism cast would make more sense than a pair of vampires. I'm not talking about the occasional unexpected crossover or the typical favorite character compilation artists do, but images like these that shout "hey, remember how Touhou rocked back then before Fate, KanColle, im@s, Azur Lane and Vocaloid rolled all over us? You might reconsider coming back and do exactly the same you already did years ago".

How does this image shout anything? It's just fanart from someone who likes both things, stop trying to project some kind of absurd agenda on Touhou fans. This isn't fucking red pill woke politics, you edgelord.
In retrospective you have a point, I should blacklist the Touhou tag. That won't prevent people pulling the same crap on social networks and picture sites, but at least I could have a good browsing around here.

Whatever troll, have fun being triggered by innocuous fanart

Haha, who is projecting now? I'm backing an argument with ciphers, examples and comiket tendencies. Yet you get triggered immediately and downvote/answer in minutes with "that's not true because I say so" as soon as I reply. Take it easy, I'm stating an opinion not making a war. Control yourself.

It's a coincidence that you happen to have made another baiting comment every time I check the comment list. I dunno who's downvoting you, but my threshold is set low enough that you'd have to have gotten more than just one for them to be hidden from me, it doesn't seem like anyone's upvoting you, either. I'm gonna block you now, though, cause I've seen enough of your comments to know that you just like to aggravate people.
Have fun collectively accusing people in fandoms you don't like of nonsensical conspiracy theory shit.
