I don't know. Let's find one and get it out onto a tray.

Jokes aside, I do know that MRE can be expired, depending on contents. Like, within our local MRE its quite wide range - from liquid honey/jam sticks (about year or two) to these dreadful, theoretically dateless, crackers which can be used as either burning fuel in particularly nasty field situations or temporarily patch a hole in BPV.

I've tried some MRE's - awesome and filling stuff when you need "compact" calories, but IMO, regardless of contents or maker, all that food ain't good for health in long term.

expired MREs can be subjective... after all there's a guy that ate meat from the Baoer War and a few years before WW1 in the form of pemmican (yes EVERYONE SHOULD KNOW THE REFERENCE) he's still alive and kicking, and then there's not so well made MREs that they perish 4-6 months after production using 21st century technology. and then there's the 1970s-1980s questionable MREs, I admit I mainly view the US lens as they were most active in MRE development as at least during the early years of the vietnam and korean wars everyone were still using US' 1940s MRE surplus.

which means that WW2's use case would mean almost everyone used field kitchens or there are MREs lost to time but we still do know Germany's Scho-ko-kola can last equally well

Ironically, one of the few that DID get him sick was a Ukrainian ration that was still within its expiration date. That and the PLA Type 13.

One whole month of these, they say... It's definitely going to be bad for our bodies...
Starting today, around twenty shipgirls from our fleet will be participating in a certain so-called "field test".
    Well, MRE rations...
    nomsh
    ...Hello. Hagikaze here.
    What kind?
    nomsh

At least it's not the old type of MREs; the ones we have now have their taste improved.
    Probably.
    But it's our duty.
    Eat it.
...So this is part of our duties too... huh...
    hrhghlll...
