This is a nice little bit of boxed chaos. The way the elevator is shown as this gateway machine, i'd never expect things to be so neatly laid out.

This just raises even more questions.

We do see an explorer with an otter's guidebook. We also know that someone is leaving notes about the hazards within, in more detail than the otters. I think it is safe to say he wasn't doing this alone, at least at first.

I want to hear the story of the normal dude in that completely mundane second-floor apartment, watching TV.

• Carni-chan and Herbi-chan play hunt (non-violent kind)
• Their neighbor is listening in (worried?)
• A phantom climbs out of the spooky TV
• Fennec watches TV until Arai-san comes home (I only just realized they live together)
• Arai-san interrupts some phantoms which then gradually spread tentacles until the whole room can't be seen
• Backup otter watches TV, gets bored and swings her pipe until the main group comes back
• Someone on the first floor just sits there
• The explorer challenges the house again (I think he isn't anywhere on the next frame)

... Raccoon has a job?

Also, I don't think they lived together initially, if I read the first few pages right.

I had to go back and reread them myself, cause I was also under the impression they lived in separate rooms/floors at first. Turns out nothing actually says they don't, Raccoon's instructions from Fennec are for how to get to their floor on one side and how to get back to the first floor on the other side.

I just didn't think that this apartment had any real landlord or connections to the grid to speak of, given how freaky it is. Also, kind of hard to imagine what job Raccoon would have.

There's something funnier about translating Gachi-oji's English to Japanese.
