Their reaction is different from what you're thinking. They're familiar with fusing and become a different person, so in their eyes, they think Goten and Trunks are a gay couple like they are.

That being said however, I know that at least one of the Gems fell in love with a man, which is how the MC in SU even exists to begin with. It's logical to assume that (some of) the Gems aren't too concerned about gender unless Steven's mom is the only exception.
