Regarding the cap: Like I said before, they ain't too bright. Most likely they fled once their flagship got sunk, without realizing WHY or HOW. You could probably put the hat on an RC boat and have hours of fun with them, in the vein of teasing a cat with a laser pointer.

This one arc (battle) has been going on for at least a year now [EDIT: 17 months, judging by the chapter breaks], so I think Meitoro's ready to move onto the next arc, including gags about the new member.
That said, logically, saving Ta-class only to have Ta-class resume shooting is only the MOST obvious way this could fail... not to mention being so flooded she'll start sinking Inazuma for trying to tow her...
Also, if they have an innate, telepathic link to their own flagship... wouldn't they recognize her when they were shooting her? (Or you know, how their link to her was severed at the EXACT same time as the "enemy admiral" sank?)
