The devs mentioned that she can just replace her damaged body with a new one, but she declined and had it repaired like this instead. Apparently her reasoning will be explained in the event.
EDIT: It turns out that she has certain memories (strongly implied to be of UMP40) embedded into her current body. Transplanting her digi-mind into another body means that she will lose those. She'd rather get herself jury-rigged under enemy fire than having that happen.
