Well seeing as England has been a bit of a joke at the WC lately, I'd say this was a solid run. Hopefully they'll be able to take 3rd place against Belgium, but I'll be honest; I'd rather have seen these two teams meet in the finals than the consolation match.

Totally agreed here. Nobody expected anything from England before the WC so this was indeed a decent run. Let's just hope they will win the 3rd place at least.

Croatia is the reason that Russia is not there anymore.

Zara and Pola I'd perfectly understand since they're named after Croatian cities and all that jazz, but Gangut? Nah... It doesn't make any sense whatsoever.

Croats are fellow Slavs. South Slavs, Catholic Slavs, but still Slavs.

Backing Croatia means they can also say that, if Croatia wins, the World Champions needed to go through them to get there, and that they needed to go to penalty kicks to beat them. Russia already came away from the tournament with a lot of things to be proud of. If it represents a rebirth of Russian soccer power, that would just be something else. "Almost got 'em."

Related, there's no dishonor in losing to this Croatia team; they're very good, and very resilient. That's something you can cheer for.

And even without all that, the only other choice now is France.

Yes, they're fellow slavs, but Russian football isn't something fun to watch. they parking bus, meet shit teams (lucky for Russia as Spain passing the ball too much without creating a chance). if they passed through Croats and meet England, that'll be the most chaotic match ever.
