I agree. It's nice that they tried the keep the eye style true to the original anime, but they really don't match the shading and tones of the rest of the pic.
The artist really should have used a more washed out color for the eyes, and went lighter on the black for the lines there. I think it's how distinct it appears compared to a more soft, indistinct tone to the rest of the image.
