As much as I poke fun at this series (and will continue to do so), I have to admit that the Aya-Thi- I mean, Taotie looks kind of creepy here. Kind of.

Also, for anyone wondering what Miko's doing there all of a sudden: don't worry, it's not building up to anything, it has no relevance, and is in fact completely superfluous. She appears one more time, still as a faceless background character. Her presence is never acknowledged. You may think she's about to be replaced by the Thi- dammit, I mean Taotie, but no. That happens to another character while Miko is still in the background.

I keep catching bits and pieces of this series as its uploaded/translated, and I'm just continuously confused. Based on your comments, its a bit of a clusterfuck, but is it a clusterfuck worth following? The earlier pages seem to imply some lore that precedes this story...

I would say yes, it's worth following. This story arc ends pretty soon, but no time is wasted before the next one begins (in full color, no less). The art style gets more charming (in my opinion) at that point too. There looks to be more character development... I think, anyway; I, of course, don't understand any of the text, but going by the visuals it seems to get better. Also, there's a bunch more comics before this, but I was told on the forum that this "appears" to be a reboot of whatever series was going on. I'm still not entirely convinced of that, though.

As for my comments, don't take them too seriously. I love giving that kind of commentary on stories, regardless of whether I like them or not. I'm also going to point a finger at one of my good friends (an art critic) for being a bad influence in that respect.

I have to admit that even I'm following it out of sheer curiosity about where the story goes, but full-color pages do sound pretty promising. I mean, the last one was actually really nice in my opinion.

It's just that the messy (and over all else inconsistent) art and... weirdly "fanficy" writing make it easy to poke fun at. And yes, if you ask me, one doujin (inherently a form of fanfic) can definitely be more fanficy than another. You know what I mean by it.

Oh, I definitely know what you mean. And as flawed as this is, the pacing isn't all over the damn place like it is with certain series, and it remains relatively focused.
By the way, when the colored pages begin... prepare for more v-mouths than you've ever wanted to see.
