Finally, the payoff for having Yorihime in a fight scene: seeing her summon a god.

He only shows up for one page and his attack is apparently completely ineffective. Payoff, my ass.

She should have gone for some bigshot like Susanoo or Amaterasu or hell, Izanami.

Aren't those all Shinto? As a Lunarian, Yorihime explicitly can't invoke Shinto gods.

I have zero idea what that part of her power is even supposed to mean, because every single god she's summoned either in this comic or in SSiB has been definitely Shinto. In fact, I know y'all didn't have the translation yet, but the god on this very page is actually Susanoo.

...Not sure how that works with the fact that many Shinto gods (like Tsukuyomi and Yagokoro-Omoikane) are in fact very-much-physical Lunarians.

Well, Touhouwiki very helpfully tells me "They also don't originate in Shinto, as the Lunarians do not follow the Earth's gods - instead, she uses the powers of Lord Enma." I took this to mean that she can't use Shinto gods (I couldn't remember which gods she summoned in SSiB; I honestly didn't like it that much and only ever read it once, a while back). I must have misinterpreted it; it probably means that she simply summons the gods differently than Reimu, nothing to do with which gods she has access to.

Yeah, I saw the same passage on the wiki and couldn't make any sense of it either. I agree that it's probably something like what you said.

Thinking more on it (as interpreting these things is one of my specialties), I would say that it means Yorihime has more authority when summoning the gods than Reimu. Her control would be more direct, and the invocation would be more "Come help me!" than "Please help me!" Where it says "the Lunarians do not follow the Earth's gods," that would mean her relationship with the gods is one closer to equals, as opposed to how Reimu is technically their servant.
I could be completely off, but I'm reasonably confident about this.

On another note, going back to the start of the conversation, the fact that that is Susano-o just makes this even more underwhelming; she summons one of the most powerful gods, and it accomplishes jack shit besides making the damn thing angry. Then again, I suppose this isn't your run-of-the-mill monster to slay, but still...

For some reason, my original interpretation during my reading of SSiB is that the summoning of Shinto gods on the Moon is normally forbidden. I forget if that was explicitly mentioned or if something else gave me that impression.

Given that whole "impurity" nonsense baloney rubbish drivel bullshit talk, that kind of makes sense.
In the sense that most of SSiB made no sense to me when I read it, so I'm ready to accept just about anything without ever checking the manga again.

Oh, Susanoo! God of Seas and Storms, one of the first and most powerful gods.
