That kind of glosses over how she changed (leveled up) over the course of the series. She starts out just concerned with him, doing things he won't do (like clean his room) just out of worry that it won't be done any other way. The psychological impact of being repeatedly beaten, forced into functional prostitution, and probably getting an abortion while looking the other way for his self-destructive habits and constantly cheating on her all degraded her own psyche to the point where she developed a dependent personality disorder over the course of the series. NOW, she's in a state where her only pride left comes from how well she is taking care of her abuser, and she'll therefore do anything to serve him, but she wasn't like that at the start.
