I still don't know what happened at the latest game from the series, but unless they are now channeling animals or men I fail to see how channeling is now creepy and disgusting compared to before.

Maya channeled a man in the second case. The man isn't very attractive, and he strips when channeled because Maya's clothes are too small for him.
He basically goes shirtless for most of the trial. As he's an ascetic monk, it doesn't seem too out of place for him. Thankfully, he has the sense to redress before departing Maya's body.
Yes, it's visually disconcerting for Maya to channel a male, and if you have problems with the idea of physical transformation for channeling, this will very likely disturb you. (Of course, if that idea bothers you, you probably shouldn't play any of the games that include Maya.)
