I was about to say the same. If you feel like any game is taking you to the greed side, stop playing it before it's too late.
Games are games, a manner to free stress and liberate some endorphin. If you feel the game like work nor the game is evil enough to get event items by paying, it would be better to find another source of enjoying your life before it's too late.
Kancolle isn't that bad compared to the three games depicted here, but you'll be really hard-pressed for a high-quality fleet roster with only 95 shipgirls at your beck and call (5 empty slots for event purposes).
Unless you're paying for resources. That's just... Wasteful.

Kancolle's actually pretty infamous for being really cheap compared to 90% of collectawaifu games. Since all girls are available for free (besides the price of wasting your time on farming) all that's worth paying for is dock keys, extra slots, and maybe extra wedding rings if you're feeling slutty. It's why they put out so much merchandise, the game itself is one of the least lucrative parts of the franchise.
The three up there are evil incarnate in comparison. Granblue at least regularly has promos where you can skip gacha altogether and just buy whoever you're gunning for, but on the other hand they also nearly got sued over their bullshit gacha with the whole Monkeygate thing.
If you're playing a free to play game and find yourself still playing it because you feel that you've invested too much money on it to quit, that's the sunken cost fallacy to you.
The money you've spent on these games is gone no matter what, but unfortunately in this case, the human brain is hardwired to usually avoid losses even if it means giving up future gains.

"My People, sons and daughters of the interwebs. On this day, as our enemy's consoles backward compatibility burns away to orbit, as their old generations lie broken to be sold on ebay, we are once again reminded of the depths of their depravity.
For years we have suffered unbearable hardships. Banished by our enemies to be stuck with Google+ as failing to be the social media replacement for facebook or twitter, or to be blamed for the source of all problems with the Youtube interface ever since we took control. Mocked for our purchase of Motorola Mobility. The internet scarred us. They weakened us. But that time has passed.
For years we worked away on adsense and adwords, slowly rebuilding our profits, our reach, and our corporation! But that time has passed.
We refused to take down the requirement of gmail and google+ for youtube accounts, afraid for the business magazines to say they "told us so". But that time has passed.
All these years I have been humbled by the honor to lead you. Ever, EVER onwards. From this day. Till the end of days!"
So.. in these games, do you pay to unlock characters or pay to have a 'chance' to unlock the characters?
Rather than unlock, you gacha (think of gachapon machines) for them. Chances are, you keep getting duplicates. You can totally play without paying, but you'll have lower chances of performing gacha that gives rare characters.

They all have in-game currency for the gacha. You can purchase it with real cash, or get for free as login bonus, events, rewards or compensations. Gathering these currency without paying takes a long time. These games usually also have a option to gacha 10 times in a row, and guarantees at least 1 rare character. Which just make pay2gacha even more tempting.
