USS Indianapolis was used as a ship-of-state during the interwar years.

USS Thetis Bay took part in more relief missions than battles.

USS Hornet (CV-12) recovered the Apollo 11 capsule after splashdown.

And that's just a few examples from the US.

One of the interesting things about warships is that they are sometimes used for non-combat purposes.
