I'm pretty sure Nagito is supposed to be the complete opposite of Naegi, or his foil, which is why he's such a weirdo.

Did you know that they even have the same voice actor? And, though the creator claims its a coincidence, that Komaeda's name, using japanese characters or other shtick, translates "I am Makoto Naegi?" So you don't have to be pretty sure, you can be sure.

I heard that Komaeda WAS deliberately designed to be Naegi's evil counterpart.

What's more is that "Naegi" itself means "seed".
"Nagito" can mean "tree".

So it's like he's the final, twisted form of Naegi's hope.
