Iowa's getting a kid when she's technically still in service?
I don't think Iowa is being held in a state of half readiness (can be fully active in 6-9 months if needed) anymore, considering submarines are getting the names of the Iowa class BBs now. So safe to say Iowa isn't in service by any mean's now.

The issue of reactivation is settled with her and Whisky decommissioned in effect, but having lip service paid to the reactivation lobby through the whole "can be called back into service if needed" and "not make any change that would hamper reactivation" clauses. It means that Iowa in the story here is nominally a reserve officer on retired list maybe.
It'd be cool if there were some touch to draw attention to the photonic mast. They're supposed to be so different from a standard periscope that seeing a photonic msat instantly identifies them as a Virginia-class submarine.
Flabby, Old lady, Shots fired much? I guess America and Britain will never truly get along.
Nah 'tis all good, HMS Warspite was known as The Grand Old Lady with affection because of her long and quite eventful service. And you gotta admit that Iowa is a little bit on the beamy (read: tubby) I mean she barely fits into size Panama canals these days.
Well... that'll have to have the Fog inside that lot, right?Iowa
Virginia-class nuclear submarine.
One of the 30 boats in the construction plan.
