The Halo 3 Sniper Rifle is stated to be 187.5 centimeters long that's 6.1 feet. Outlandish, but then it does fire a 14.5mm discarding sabot rounds semi-automatically... Having said that though the length is probably about right the receiver is too fat which is making it look bigger then it should be IMO.
The Halo sniper rifle is based on a real gun; the Denel NTW-20. One of the first few Google Images results for "NTW-20" is a photograph of the gun's designer standing next to the weapon. It really is that huge.
