There were a bunch of ships, mostly destroyers, which were built in Texas. About half of the legendary DesRon23 was, including Arleigh Burke's flagship Charles Ausburne.

Nah, I didn't get that impression from that interview they did to Yoshinori about Iowa's design. Iowa was made as american as possible since, you know, first ship, gotta fulfill expectations and such, but I suspect the followup would be designed to contrast with Iowa, similar to how Yamato and Musashi are. (Although in reverse order)
