The context behind it though gives off an odd vibe to me.

From the man's own mouth:

"First, I just want everyone to understand that I'm not drawing Bayonetta. I've been on record for a long time that I'm not a fan of her character design, and I've never played any of the Bayonetta games. I'm just not into super-tall/long-limbed chicks (Samus being the exception). Please don't crucify me."

His prerogative as an artist, I suppose.

Yeah, it's not like he does physical 1:1s with all of these characters (ie: Peach, Rosalina, Wii Fit Trainer and Female Villager to extents) to begin with. In-game, she's scaled down to about Rosalina's height anyway if I'm not mistaken.

Ugh this is going to be Sundown of (MLP fanart fame) all over again for me.
