This finally hit me. That's a joke on Baron Potato 男爵芋, Baron Ryuukichi Kawada who introduced the Irish Cobbler Potato to Japan.

Kawada inherited his Baroncy from his father. The potatoes that he introduced to Hokkaido provided better yield and it became known as the Baron Potato. He spent 25 years of his life running the potato farming project at Hokkaido, so this banker went down in history as the Potato Baron.
