The classical "old stuff was better". The only difference between anything old and new is they are adapted to the current culture. Apart from that, it's the same "garbage" but this time one you didn't grow with.
On off topic rants, the old DBZ is the culprit I don't watch looooong anime series anymore. There's also the old "gay for male" stuff (Saint Seiya), but that's another matter.

I dunno, the absolutely horrendous animation quality kinda speaks for itself. By the way, don't mouse over Mars' derped (screencapped) face above the menu or it will speak to your soul, and possibly wound your mind.
The original wasn't great looking at all, especially the early stuff, sure. But dear lord, they could have put some effort into the modern version to not make it look like it was done in a badly lit basement by a budding doujin artist.
I have to agree quality standards are rather low, not mentioning anime before 2000 had some kind of custom feeling by author rather than production company (i.e. you could tell a Rumiko Takahashi work only by sight). Unfortunately the consumer habits have changed too. Few care about quality and they simply produce as much as anyone could consume. Not that I'm justifying it but I understand why things like these happen. Anyway, just another anime to forget once the season ends while so many others are waiting for the next one. That's how all works now.

To be honest, it's partly to do with Toei Animation trying to do Sailor Moon Crystal on the cheap. On top of that, there were are your standard errors of a TV production which barely got a QA check to get it out the door and on the tube as soon as possible. Those errors will be touched upon for the DVD/Bluray...
But to me, crystal's biggest failing is it's narrative. The manga wasn't all that good of a story to be blunt, as annoy as it is to some... I prefer the 90's modified tale (minus the whole kissing cousins thing). Crystal keeps that original tale mostly intact, warts and all... while making some rather poor edits along the way (I would have lived with the Sailor's and General's being items if that was development over the course of the show, in Crystal... that idea comes out of NO WHERE). This was a show that really could have used 20+ ep's an arc to tell and pad out it's story. But they rushed it, and it shows.

Why do people keep saying this? Takeuchi herself talked about this again and again and again, and Kunzite/Venus and Jadeite/Mars actually happened.
For the record, because someone is somehow going to use this post as "proof" of me defending Crystal (I am not being paranoid, people have done this to me), I understand (not "think") Crystal is absolute garbage.
