Their firepower (and armor) sort of suck (as a battleship) by WW-II standards, even for fast battleships.

Then again, hardly surprising, considering they were aged battlecruisers rebuilt into battleships.

That panel sure looked like a lot of fire, even if in RL they were more cruiser than battleship.

Well the Yamato-class were relatively modern super-battleships, and Nagato-class were built only a few years after the Kongou-class. That said, sometimes speed and maneuverability are more important then firepower or armor, which is why the Kongous were the real workhorses of the IJN safeguarding and escorting their carriers.

All four Kongō-class battleships participated in the Guadalcanal Campaign. Kongō and Haruna bombarded Henderson Field, and Hiei and Kirishima fought, and were sunk, during the Naval Battles of Guadalcanal.
