"小町" is Komachi's name of course. The "号" signifies that it is a ship name. It's simply a not very creative name for the boat. Chinese and Japanese use "号" but it has no English equivalent either as far as I know.

It's translated now, but basically Komachi's supposed to ferry good souls across the Sanzu River, which has hell beneath it, and she bumps the boat on something and the soul falls in. She then says that guy had so many good deeds that they had lost count.
1. Makes you wonder how much good this person did in their life to cause an overflow. 2. Is there established protocal in cases like this? 3. Would the yama have a similar problem and end up seeing little white on the person?

Maybe it'll be so grossly incandescent that it'll blind the Yama.
The TLN has it backwards. The width of the river is dependent on "the baggage of one's soul", or in other words, how bad of a person they've been. It's wider the more sins they have, not the more good deeds they've done. Whether or not you're able to cross the Sanzu depends on if you have a sufficient amount of coins to counter the weight of your sins.
Iirc, how many coins you have after death is dependent on how many connections you made with other people in life. So you could be a bad person, but be liked by many people, and thus safely make it across even if the river is very wide. If you don't have enough coins, or you're unwilling to give them up, then you'll be thrown into the water and dragged directly to hell.
This also relates to the shutting down of old hell and the serious financial crisis new hell is experiencing. Too many people are going to hell and there's not enough coins being brought in to even keep the torture machines running.

I always thought it was the opposite and made a pretty lame mistake. I'll remember this and be careful next time.
