Seriously, it came out of left field. It's almost on the level of the ending of Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei.

Twas so unexpected that I had to go back and re-read the series.

And altought it does not seem logical, nor even close to giving a suggestion, it is not forced.

She even had trouble and needed to be rescued when she feel on the pool. Might have been related to the tentacles.
