That's barely even engrish though. I've seen native speakers make that typo, it's literally just two letters accidentally transposed.

Uh yeah it is, as in 'that mistake is very easy to make even for natives and acting like it's some outrageous typo when made by someone who has English as a second language at best is rather silly'.

Just speaking about myself. Most of the contact I have with my own native language is from speaking to one another instead of in written form. So the words are memorized as series of sounds. But sound of speech varies among different person and there’s also the ambiguous sounds (long vowel or similar consonant sounds).
When writing it down, often times it's not from visual data (shape of letters) and instead I translate the sounds in my memory into what I think it would be represented in alphabet.

Usually it hits the mark, but there’s always words written differently from the dictionary-standard spelling.

Now I think my native language is quite straightforward from sound <--> text.
Can't imagine how it would be on language like French with those unvoiced letters.
