More of the "mushi" pun I take it.

Stretched further here (Musakawa, Musuzukaze, Musendai, Musouryuu, Mushiamatsukaze). Also seems like the kun reading of the 'mu' character is 'jou', because we have Ryuu(jou) with a different second character.

Feel especially bad for Mutsu, who already had problems with fire.

It's a pun.
蒸し (Mu / Mushi; steamed).
That's why all the victims have name started with "Mu" or "Shi"

Also 蒸し暑い (Mushi atsui) is how they describe summer weather when it's both hot and humid, totally unpleasant.
