What about the beer? I don't know much about it myself, but I'm assuming that's low quality too. And she's German, and for Germans, beer is serious business.
The thing they served her is Happoshu Low malt beer made to avoid higher alchohol tax placed on real beer.

Compared with menu of tasteless soup, overly salty canned meat, cold vegetable and warm beer ?
