  • Poor Megaman

Poor Megaman indeed. He's now 25 and instead of being a star like in past years he's been demoted to being a sales rep at Capcom. Nobody at Capcom remembered his birthday(except of a fan who showed up with a little something) or told him of any plans for a new game, with the only other gift he received that day being a Taco Bell meal from his now drug afflicted little sister. "Fuck you Mario and Link. You assholes got to have a great party." he mumbled while he tried to enjoy his two tacos. "How did it get to this? Where did I go wrong?" he pondered while he looked on the grave of the supposedly new Mega guy. Regardless, he had to go to sleep early to wake up for another day of trying to sell Resident Evil and Street Fighter games to young teenagers.

I absolutely love it, so true, unfortunately.

How did a robot gain weight, though?

Did he get a larger stomach installed to better match how he feels his life is going?

I don't think a Megaman game has ever bombed as badly as Sonic's. Yes, there were some bad ones. Yes, they milked the series. But they also expanded it, took some risks, which while may not have been hugely successful, they were loved.

    Absolute truth (on both counts)...

Capcom doesn't understand how to keep a franchise fresh to save their lives. Meanwhile, Mario and Luigi are getting their money for nothing and checks for free because milking a franchise with incremental changes to the formula (next, Mario Kart Galaxy...) for the entire natural lives of a customer base first addicted at age 5 is Nintendo's whole business model.

Maybe you guys should look at it in a different light: Just picture Megaman as retired and enjoying a good E-tank ale at a Caribbean beach somewhere in his privately owned vacation house. Fans keep pushing a company to make better games of an old series that seems to lose it's luster; trying to catch the old spark they had when the first game came out. When a series gets old and a company will either do run out of ideas or milk a series says one thing: it's time to move on.

Personally, I kinda don't like how the artist displays such a negative light on one of my childhood games like he's some one-trick celebrity star who got kicked out of Hollywood. Let's not perverse old toys and games, rather cherish them as memories in a special place deep in your heart.

The thing is, it's kinda hard not to be negative when Megaman didn't get a proper send off. There is a difference in a company announcing they are ending a series and when a series just essentially "Dies".

Yeah, Sonic has had some god awful games, but SEGA looked at their mistakes and tried to fix up their mascot character. While he's not as hot as in the 90s (when even Micheal Jackson was scrambling to help make the music), he's still at a higher place than when he first came into 3D gaming.

Megaman? He's never crashed and burned as hard as Sonic 2006, and Capcom outright said 'bury him', because they've tapped out all of the other Megaman franchises, and can't figure out how to make Megaman a low effort high profit game.
