Melpha's holy poses were at least kind of funny because Nanael turned them into a form yoga. And Melpha was an otherwise decent character because of her relationship with Nanael. She also had an amusing battle with Tomoe, who vowed to win on the basis that if Melpha won, the holy poses might have become mainstream!
Siggy, I thought, was going to be built up to be a serious rival and antagonist to Annelotte. She's an inquistor, but she never went out on a witch hunt. She didn't persecute heretics (and when she did they literally came out of the wood work). The role she executed in the series was closer to a priestess.
Worst part is, she not only joined Anne's little rebellion, but she's following her with full faith and confidence! Her character should have been used as an oppurtunity to develope the church as an organization within the power structure of the country, fully independent and self-interested, but no, she's just another one of Anne's craptacular harem.
Siggy, as is most of the Rebellion cast, is trash.
The only decent ones are Huit & Vingt, Izumi, Captain Liliana, and maybe Lyla. Al was pretty good, if only because it was hilarious to see that even after losing her memories and her edge she was still a better fighter than pretty much every other character in the series.

While I don't mind the above happening, I was expecting a gradual and in-depth process (maybe involving, yes, development of the Church as a power-player organization). But nah, they're doing an OVA.
