Perhaps, but for some (like me), the author sometimes comes off as being patronizing and a bit scornful of his wife's behavior.

I believe that's just a bit of cultural oversensitivity. All I'm seeing is comedy based upon adjusting to differences in culture, not a shred of insult included.

Actually that would be quite probable to happen in this case, both the expansive brand-stuff and the omit.

Chinese "After-80s", born in an age of unimaginable economic boom (compared with what their parents gone through) and the restriction on one child per family, usually get spoiled by a lot of expansive branded-stuff.

About the omit, since Chinese words have individual meanings in each character, while Japanese is more like English, using a string of meaningless (usually) sounds to make a meaningful word, it is quite possible for Chinese to cut the sentence at wrong place (Japanese don'tr have space either).

Really, this reminds me of the exchange students we get at my high school. Ever tried to teach a German kid who's only had basic conversational training in English about nuclear physics? It's Interesting. That, and getting them to eat pizza, from what my friend, his host, said.

    And also a Chanel bag!!
Actually, you already know the meaning of that already don't you?
    Jing-san,
    Aaaah
    Yue usually speaks very fast.
    Your Japanese sure is good.
What's "patience"? Can also mean endurance, tolerance, self-control, self-denial, perseverance.
Before marriage, you wanted an Omega watch that costs 1 million yen!
    What's "Brand" mean?
    Several days later.
    Eheheh
    Plenty of suspicion.
    Jing-san.
Because of that, people thought that her Japanese was good, although that's not the case.
You wouldn't believe the kind of vocabulary she's missing sometimes.
