Micaiah is the result of a laguz/beorc pairing. As is Soren and one other main character I think... can't remember which one. But apparently, there are actually a number of them.

They're called Branded in game and the other one you're thinking of is the Swordmaster with the funky hair, Stefan.
According to Path of Radiance, Beorc and Laguz interbreeding is so rare that many think it's impossible. It has obviously happened though, but all the Branded in the games seem to be the results of beorc/laguz unions several generations ago rather than real half-breeds.As for their appearance, they look like regular beorc (humans) but with a mark on their forehead. They can't shapeshift like laguz, but have powerful magical or physical talents. And Soren appears to age slower than normal, most likely caused by his dragon blood.
There's another character (in Radiant Dawn) who's Branded; his mark is on his lower back, and in his backstory (and another character's) the slower aging is explicitly mentioned as being a problem for the Branded.
