The sad thing about an alien invasion like this is that, all that stands between annihilation and victory is our air force. Once we lose air superiority...we are screwed. Also hope to see more of this person's art.

If we really want to be realistic, nothing would save us from a civilization capable of Faster Than Light travel, might as well be gods. That said, let's just hope that they want to attempt to subjugate us as opposed to outright annihilation, then we could put up a resistance of some sort.

    There's always surface-to-air missiles.

To be serious,SAM won't be a solution. SAM is essentially passive weapon which must wait enemy until they come and their anti-air capacity is much lower than Fixed-wing aircraft.SAM is may solve some of alien air superiority, but not a true solution.

When enemy comes from space fixed-wing aircraft can't fly to space and intercept them. From alien perspective aircraft is as good as a highly mobile "surface"-to-air missile launcher.

I'd say nuke them to kingdom come. Who cares about radiation, we'd be screwed, anyway.

If the aliens have any experience in warfighting, we're doomed. Any race capable of interstellar travel, whether FTL or STL, is so much more powerful than us, it's almost incomprehensible. Their armor is likely made of alloys orders of magnitude above our technology, making them all but impenetrable, while their weapons will likely cut through our vehicles like hot knife through butter. The advantage in energy generation required to support any serious interstellar-capable ship, even if it's the slow kind (generation ships or stasis) makes it possible for them to overwhelm our communication with broad spectrum white noise and drown out C3, or simply unleash an EMP and ground the majority of our our forces. They could even pop some drives on the Moon and asteroids, and wipe us out by dropping them. If there's any war, it would be short and painless, not likely to be longer than a week, and if the aliens are merciful, with only the armed forces being killed.

If the aliens have no experience in warfighting, we're just fucked. Their technological superiority would mean that even with the advantage of strategy and terrain on our side, they could just pound us into dust, fuse the dust into glass, then shatter us all over again. If they are not determined and very, very stupid, we might be able to drag out the fighting until they decide it's not worth it, but that's very unlikely.

All in all, if aliens come here for real, we're as good as dead, no matter what we do...

Not even that. Here's the thing; any civilization that can cross interstellar distances in any reasonable period of time can either 1) warp spacetime to suit their needs, or 2) accelerate their craft to a significant portion of light speed.

The former means they have access to an incredible amount of energy, and can thus weaponize it. As for the latter, anything going a significant portion of light speed WILL destroy whatever it hits.

If they do want to wipe us out, we'll only detect them a few hours (at most) before we're annihilated. If they're not hostile, their intentions might be peaceful. Possibly; their morality, logic, and thought processes will be entirely alien to us. There's no telling what they might be thinking until we meet them, really.
