    ... I have yet to see an AK that can be retrofitted with accessories that's being used by the M16 pattern platform.

    Really? It's easy enough to put rails and a M4 stock on a AK.

    The issue is that anything mounted on the dust cover will quickly loose it's zero. Izhmash came out with a AK74/1XX prototype a couple years ago that's designed so it doesn't loose zero, and the AK12, but they've declared bankruptcy so it's unlikely those will show up any time soon.

    On that issue, this all third hand and thus should not be taken for gospel, but a buddy of mine who owns an AK mentioned something about a type of dust cover some company makes which has prongs that extends along the front of the receiver and some that clamp down onto the bolt stop and will therefore hold zero pretty well. I can't remember the company and again, this is all third-hand and should not be considered reliable.

    That said, I understood the ones with rails on the barrel shroud to be pretty reliable. Or you could spring for a PSO-1.
