how many side dish does a Japanese bento usually have? (I don't know since I'm Chinese. And yes, we usually only have a single side dish in our bento.)
Japanese bentou, seems to be very time consuming or requiring great multi-tasking skill. The side dish is relatively small in portion but came in many variations. Could be three or more side dishes. Plus cooking many small things just for one person always seems to make lots of leftover.
In comparison, Wang-sensei’s bentou seems a lot easier to make. Just prepare one dish and done with it.
