Orphaned implications

There is currently 92 implications where antecedent tag has zero posts. These tags either have been nuked, in which case the implication should be deleted as well; or mass updated/aliased, in which case implication should be transferred to the correct tag. Leaving these here for investigation, it's actually not quite easy to figure out what happened to a tag without doing some forum digging.

In case anyone takes up the task, feel free to describe what you find here, and create bulk update requests to fix these.

I can't find anything about the old Adrian tag; I suppose we can re-alias it later if it comes back up, since it's a non-issue right now.

Thanks for participating, I have a busy week or two ahead, so it'd be impossible to handle this all myself. One important thing about this list is that all antecedent tags have zero posts, meaning they are all invalid and have been abandoned either by aliasing or by mass-updating; so there's no reason to create new implications for them.

The reason I requested this list from Albert and opened the thread is that, even though the tag is abandoned, the implication still exists. The implication itself is harmless, though useless, but it may indicate that somebody forgot to move the implication to the new tag when aliasing or mass-updating. So, first it's necessary to find out what happened to the tag, which might require some forum archeology; then check if implication is valid for the new tag. If it is, then new tag should have the implication, unless it already has it. After that, the old implication will be removed.

For example, genya_arikado is currently arikado_genya, and was moved about 7 years ago after discussion in topic #384. And arikado_genya has no implications, so it's exactly one of those cases why I've started this :3

What happened to adrian_fahrenheit_tepes is a mystery, though, since it's currently impossible to search for a tag through post versions, and there's no mention in forum either, besides unfulfilled request to remove implication in topic #10901.

Here's what I was able to get done so far. I think most of it should be self-explanatory, but here are some notes:

- m1_garand current implies rifle rather than battle rifle, which seems correct based on definitions
- the tag currently in use is browning_hi-power (rather than browning_high-power), which does imply handgun
- the tag currently in use is imi_tavor_tar-21 (rather than tar_21), which does imply assault_rifle but not bullpup
- the tag currently in use is ar-10 (rather than ar_10), which does imply battle_rifle
- manacles was aliased to shackles, which does imply cuffs
- necktie_pull was aliased to necktie_grab, which does imply necktie

Additionally I populated the magpul fmg-9 tag (from fmg9 and magpul_fmg_9), so that can be removed from the list as well.

I'll try to look in to some of the others later. From what I read a lot of the weapons tags were barely populated when the implications were made, so it's possible some of the ones in the list above were never used.

- the tag in use is barrett_m82 (rather than barret) which does imply anti-material_rifle
- the tag in use is frilled_dress (ruffles was aliased to frills) which does imply dress
- hand_gag was aliased to hand_gagged, which does imply gagged
- the tag in use is h&k_usp (usp_tactical is a variant) which does imply handgun

I populated ruger_mini-14 from mini-14 as it fits better with current naming conventions, so that can be removed from the list, and the mini-14 wiki entry can also be removed.

The tags ruger_mini-14 and magpul fmg-9 can be removed from the list as well since they've both been populated.

From what I can tell, most of the series implications were made to bring them in the line with other entries in the series, even if they don't have tags. For example rance_iv has no tags, but rance_vi does. Same with langrisser_i and onimusha_3:_demon_siege. Do we leave the implications in case somebody uploads something from that copyright in the future, or get rid of them and re-imply it should we need to?

For series, I think if the game actually exists, the tag can be left intact but should be mentioned on the catch-all wiki page. There are, however, cases like (game_name)_1 where the tag isn't used, and (game_name) is supposedly used instead. Not sure what should be done about these, but it's inconsistent with other specific game / series tags, like fate or grandia series for example.

I think the issue of (game_name) being used instead of (game_name)_1 mostly arises when a game gets multiple sequels or spin-offs. Recently dealt with that with Bravely Default topic #12843. Two examples from the list are bioshock and dead space. Bioshock was released and posts were tagged as such, then came bioshock_2 and bioshock_infinite, which were implicated to Bioshock. The trouble is the tag is now being treated as a catch-all series tag, rather than just the first game.

I think a good policy for the future, when a game receives a sequel, would be to to create a new tag game_name_(series) and imply game_name and game_name_2 to that, rather than implying game_name_2 to game_name. That's much less work than cleaning and retagging everything appropriate that was tagged as game_name with game_name_1.

Gensou Suikoden VI doesn't exist yet, nor is it announced, so until it's actually released we can probably kill the implication.

Tales of Phantasia X is a remake of Tales of Phantasia, Valkyrie Profile Lenneth is a remake of Valkyrie Profile 1.

As far as I can tell Lunar: The Silver Story does not exist as such, though the name is close to other games in the series.
