A many bladed windmill affixed atop a lattice tower primarily used to pump groundwater.
The American company Aermotor Windmill Company started producing this type of windmill starting in the late 19th century and they became widely used on ranches throughout the plains and arid areas of the United States. The prevalence of these on ranches resulted in this type of windmill becoming heavily associated with the American West.
