The VDV ("Vozdushno-desantnye voyska", Russian Airborne Forces) are an independent branch of the Russian Armed Forces acting as the country's rapid-reaction and shock troops.
Airborne forces have traditionally worn a blue beret and blue-striped "telnyashka" and are called "desant" from the French "Descente".
