uss atlanta (cl-51)

Class leader and name ship of the Atlanta-class light cruisers of the United States Navy, named for the city of the same name. Commissioned just before Christmas, 1941, the vessel was awarded five Battle Stars for combat service during the Pacific Theater of World War II.

While serving in the Guadalcanal campaign, USS Atlanta was crippled in combat action during the night of 13 November 1942, and was ordered to be scuttled the next morning.
