takarazuka revue
A Japanese all-female musical theater troupe, founded in 1913 and based in Takarazuka, Hyougo Prefecture, Japan. Women play all roles in lavish, Broadway-style productions of Western-style musicals, and sometimes stories adapted from shoujo manga and Japanese folktales.
The Revue has had a marked influence on anime and manga, including the growth of the shoujo and yuri genres, as well as the bishounen trope.
