takamakura

A takamakura (literally "tall pillow") is a type of Japanese traditional pillow consisting of a cylindrical cushion set on top of a tall base. As they can support the neck rather than the skull, they were often used to preserve complex traditional hairstyles (nihongami) such as those associated with geisha.
